Dr. Chiao 參與的研究團隊近期於《Journal of Applied Gerontology》發表〈How Patient Use of Electronic Health Records Affects Perceived Quality of Care in Older Adults: Exploring Gender and Age Disparities〉一文。本研究使用 2018–2020 年 HINTS 資料，探討美國 65 歲及以上older adults使用電子健康紀錄（electronic health record, EHR）與照護品質之間的關係。以病人為中心的溝通（patient-centered communication, PCC）顯著中介了兩者之間的關係，且在 70 歲以上成人中的中介效果更強。研究結果凸顯，在改善醫療照護體驗方面，採用符合年齡差異的 EHR 設計與溝通策略的重要性。
