Dr. Kingston與其研究團隊近期在《Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics》上發表了〈Exploring the relationship between cognitive impairment, frailty and mortality in the oldest old: findings from the Newcastle 85+ cohort study〉一文。本研究以 Newcastle 85+ Study 中 695 位 85 歲長者的資料進行縱貫分析，發現衰弱會加速認知功能下降，且當衰弱與認知功能障礙同時存在時，死亡風險會顯著提高。而同時具有衰弱與認知功能障礙的受試者，其死亡風險最高（風險比 HR = 3.67），10 年存活機率降低 28%，且其restricted mean survival約縮短兩年。研究結果支持採取整合性的介入措施，並改善身體衰弱與認知健康，以提升超高齡者的健康與存活率。
