Dr. Chiao參與的研究團隊近期在《Children and Youth Services Review》發表〈Applying the general strain theoretical framework to exploring the associations between adverse childhood experiences and problematic Internet use〉一文。本研究利用為期 17 年的「台灣青少年計畫」資料，檢視逆境童年經驗（adverse childhood experiences, ACEs）如何影響青年期的問題性網路使用（problematic Internet use, PIU）。在一般壓力理論的指引下，本研究結果顯示 ACEs 會直接增加 PIU 的風險，並透過加劇孤獨感間接提升風險。本研究強調情緒途徑與教育情境的重要性，凸顯早期逆境如何促成後期的問題性網路行為。
